Hi, my name is Christine Ruiz- Bren.
My fascination with childbirth began in childhood. My mother was a home birth midwife in El Dorado Hills in the 1970's and early 1980's. From a very early age, I learned to trust the birth process, trust the body, and trust the mother.
My husband and I have three wonderful boys. Our first son was born at a hospital with the best intentions of having a natural birth, but ending up with just about every intervention possible. After that experience I began to search of information about birth practices and choice in anticipation of having another child someday. Eight years later, my husband and I welcomed our second son and then two years after that third son into the world at The Birth Center with no interventions and were able to achieve two beautiful natural births with the loving support of our doula and our midwife. The empowerment I carry with me to this day from those birth experiences lead me into helping other mothers to achieve their own birth desires.
My journey to becoming a doula began in 2001 when I was asked to provide labor support to my friend. The awesome experience of being present for the labor and birth of a new baby and my own positive birth experiences inspired me to seek professional training and become a doula. Furthermore, I have had the incredibly rewarding opportunity to volunteer in the community to give to other women in need: labor support , breastfeeding support, and childbirth education. Labor and birth support does not end at the birth in my opinion. I feel it is important to support the new mom who is seeking to establish a breastfeeding relationship with her new baby. I have training in breastfeeding support through the La Leche League and work with moms to help them establish a satisfying breastfeeding relationship with their newborn.
I truly understand the desire to give birth in a safe, supported environment, with freedom to make fully informed decisions regarding ones birth experience. It is my goal to provide support to mothers and their partners in a gentle and loving manner so they feel empowered to make informed decisions in regards to their labor and birth experience. It is important to me that all mothers feel supported and empowered before, during, and after their birth whether at a hospital, birth center, or at home.
